The aurora display of March 31st 2001 was the first aurora I have observed. From my latitude of 38.01ºS, the aurora was reaching up to around 60º into the sky in some places. These photos are all of the first display. It was first visible just after 7:00pm, local NZ time, and was visible to around 8:00pm. It was visible again, even bigger and brighter, from around 10:30pm to 11:30pm, then again around 1:00am, and again later on in the early morning, just before dawn on April 1st.
